If not now, when?

A Brief Update on “Traditions”

You’re probably wondering… “Where is Traditions Part 2?”. Good question! Its somewhere, hiding, in the back of my mind. The truth is, when I wrote Traditions Part 1, I had the idea to write about an old tradition followed by a newer tradition. But, when I wrote Traditions Part 1, I was also in a different headspace. I was admittedly feeling a little sad and nostalgic for a holiday tradition that is no longer a yearly tradition. This is only because my family, my Mom and sisters, don’t all live within 10 minutes of each other now. If you’re wondering what the distance is and whether or not it could still be doable, “surely you can travel a bit further for family”… my Mom is *checks notes*… 1,384 miles away. Don’t worry, she is literally living our her dream in what I can only describe as a “little house in the big woods”. Hopefully this time next year, I’ll be writing from the cozy cabin about traditions old and new.

So, Traditions Part 2 just hasn’t come to me yet, and I won’t force it. I don’t think that would be very good writing. Perhaps I will make it a running series where I recount old traditions if I am feeling nostalgic, as I did with Traditions Part 1, while another piece could be about a new tradition or a new reoccurring event, maybe even a weekly or monthly habit. I’m certain a topic will present itself. However, I don’t want to dwell too much on the past and nostalgia. Its okay to miss the “good old days”, but in an effort to stay present and try to get back to being a person that looks forward to the future, I need to do just that. Look forward… and honestly, I need to get excited. There really is a lot to be excited about.

With all that said, I just want to note that I am going to rename Traditions Part 1 to a title more fitting. A title that would make more sense for a running series. I’ll leave a note in the post itself as well about this edit.

If you were waiting on Traditions Part 2, thank you! I’m sorry this wasn’t it. But be on the lookout for future installments, whenever the nostalgia calls, or the moment is so good I have to capture it.

Thank you for reading, and, I’m happy you’re here.
